As you may know, I’m a big reader. One of my favourite authors is Lionel Shriver whose books I absolutely adore (her latest novel “Mania” is brilliant by the way). Knowing this my husband Tim booked us to go and hear her speak at the Cheltenham Literature Festival as a birthday treat.
Unfortunately, she cancelled three days before the event – pah! However the festival was packed with other authors and we managed to see lots of fabulous people including Caitlin Moran, Linda La Plante and Richard Osman so all was not lost.
Listening to stories from curious minds was inspiring and made me think how lucky I am to share stories with my guests in the salon. My days are packed with revealing conversations about love, loss, triumph and the occasional disaster. Aside from my professional hairdressing qualifications, I consider myself to be a professional listener. I learnt recently that when people tell you their story they are looking for one of three things – they want to be helped, heard or hugged. The skill is to determine which one is required and respond accordingly. We love listening to our guests’ stories and having a positive impact on someone’s life not just in terms of the way they look but also the way they feel.
So what do you need? We’re listening.
Studio 2 – great hair, with care…and love.
